Timing May Not Be Everything But It Is Important
In one of my articles, I tried to lay a framework for the different phases a Parkinsons patient may go through and the many types of treatments that are available today. We now know, for example, that in the early phase of Parkinsons, specific exercises can be just as important as, if not more important in some patients than, medications. Understanding the options and windows of opportunity can be the difference between success and failure.
We also now know that the timing of medications is critical and in many cases needs to be exactly aligned to particular hours of the day. In addition, some patients see benefits by changing drug dose, adjusting medication intervals and possibly the addition of one of many other drugs.
There are windows of opportunity for some patients where great benefit may result from surgical therapy. These include deep brain stimulation or the use of an externally worn pump that infuses a gel formation of a dopamine medication directly into the small intestine, which is a newer therapy approved by the FDA two years ago. There is also focused ultrasound for some cases of tremor. But the physician must be aware of what those windows are, and who are the patients likely to experience benefit.
In other words, we must tailor the treatment to the patient.

The British heavy metal star apologised for cancelling 17 dates as he battles Parkinsons disease.

Ozzy Osbourne has cancelled his North American tour to receive medical treatment after revealing he has Parkinsons disease.
The Black Sabbath frontman, 71, had been due to start the US leg of his No More Tours 2 tour in May, which was to include 17 shows, but said he will instead travel to Switzerland for medical treatment.
Osbourne revealed last month that he had been diagnosed with a form of called PRKN2 in February last year and said he did not have that much longer.
In a statement, he said: Im so thankful that everyone has been patient because Ive had a s**t year.
Unfortunately, I wont be able to get to Switzerland for treatment until April and the treatment takes six to eight weeks.
I dont want to start a tour and then cancel shows at the last minute, as its just not fair to the fans.
Id rather they get a refund now and when I do the North American tour down the road Everyone who bought a ticket for these shows will be the first ones in line to purchase tickets at that time.

Ozzy Osbourne, known internationally as both a rock star and TV personality, recently revealed that he has Parkinsons disease. Parkinsons, a kind of movement disorder, starts very mild and slowly gets worse over time. It is treatable but cant be cured.

When Was Ozzy Osbourne Diagnosed With Parkinson’s Disease
Ozzy has been secretly suffering after being told the devastating diagnosis in February 2019.

In a sit down interview with Good Morning America, Ozzy admitted hed spent the last year in constant pain, describing it as the most miserable time of his life.
The Black Sabbath star said his problems started when he suffered a fall at home last April and underwent surgery.
He said doctors were unsure whether it was the fall or the surgery that led to the downward spiral.
Ozzy said he wanted to speak out after it was falsely reported he was on his death bed and he felt guilty about not being honest with his fans.
