Yet if you were given the same task to complete in two weeks theres a very good chance you could complete it in two weeks. Of course, it doesnt just end there. If we look deeper into it we will find that the bulk of the work itself may be done in the final two days whether it was allocated 2 weeks or 6 weeks. So the second thing we learn from Parkinsons law in time is that we generally work to deadlines.

Below I have laid out a list of songs you can try out that have a range of tempos. There is a slow, medium, and fast playlist. Start walking to a slower song . As you get comfortable, you can increase the tempo.
The end goal is to walk to a beat that is slightly faster than your stride. Not only will this push you to transcend your normal Parkinsonian gait, it will also give you a longer lasting therapeutic effect after you stop listening.

- Forgive yourself for not being perfect. From the day your loved one was diagnosed your world has been turned upside down. Your daily routine will change, as may your personal standards of housekeeping and other tasks. Accept your own humanity.
- Acknowledge your right to feel emotionally off-balance. Recognize the hidden grief component of your anger, anxiety, guilt and depression. Expect adaptation to, but not resolution of, your grief. Accept it and seek out someone who understands it.
- Determine your limits. What is your comfort level providing care? Some caregivers feel they can provide care at home as long as others in the family can put up with the disruptions.
- Be kind to yourself. Remember you are experiencing normal reactions to abnormal circumstances.
- Seek out joy in your relationship with your loved one. Your hands-on duties, such as dressing your loved one, might feel like work, but these tasks bring you together. Add some fun to your hands-on care: sing songs, tell jokes, share goals and dreams.

First Hints Parkinson’s Can Be Stopped

It may be possible to stop the progression of Parkinson’s disease with a drug normally used in type 2 diabetes, a clinical trial suggests.
Current drugs help manage the symptoms, but do not prevent brain cells dying.
The trial on 62 patients, published in the Lancet, hints the medicine halted the progression of the disease.
The University College London team is “excited”, but it urges caution as any long-term benefit is uncertain and the drug needs more testing.
“There’s absolutely no doubt the most important unmet need in Parkinson’s is a drug to slow down disease progression, it’s unarguable,” Prof Tom Foltynie, one of the researchers, told the BBC.
In Parkinson’s, the brain is progressively damaged and the cells that produce the hormone dopamine are lost.
It leads to a tremor, difficulty moving and eventually memory problems.
Therapies help manage symptoms by boosting dopamine levels, but the death of the brain continues and the disease gets worse.
No drug stops that happening.
Think About Your Specific Parkinsons Symptoms
Certain exercises or movements will target specific symptoms.
Remember, its important to do a proper warm up before activity or exercise, to make sure your body is loose enough for the task.
Bradykinesia tends to affect one side of the body more than the other. The side most affected by Parkinsons will tire more quickly.
If youre doing exercise that involves using weights or resistance , try hard to keep both sides of your body working evenly.
If one side of your body isnt working as well, slow what you are doing or stop momentarily to refocus. This will help you make sure youre doing the exercise properly. Think quality, not quantity!
If the activity involves walking or stepping using alternate legs, try saying to yourself big step or heel down when you take a step on your most affected leg, to keep step sizes equal on both legs.
If you choose to walk along a corridor or in the garden, work out how many large steps it should take you to get from the start to finish of your route. Count your steps out loud as you walk, trying to hit the same number of steps on the way back.
Rigidity can stop muscles from stretching and relaxing.
