Which One Is Best Suited For You

Glutathione: The “mother” of all antioxidants…

There are three forms of glutathione available in the market. The intravenous injection is quite popular. However, there are questions asked with respect to the safety of these intravenous injections. In fact, the health department of the Philippines has issued a public warning regarding the use of these injections. Questions have been asked about the duration of the treatment, safety profile, as well as the effect on different individuals. It is quite clear that apart from the antioxidant effects of glutathione, there is no strong evidence to support other claims. It is always advised to consult a medical professional before supplementing any form of Glutathione.

May Reduce Oxidative Damage In Children With Autism

Several Medical Science Monitor , indicate that children with autism have higher levels of oxidative damage and lower levels of glutathione in their brain. This increased susceptibility to neurological damage in children with autism from substances such as mercury.

The eight-week clinical trial on children aged 3 to 13 used oral or transdermal applications of glutathione. Autistic symptom changes were not evaluated as part of the study, but children in both groups showed improvement in cysteine, plasma sulfate, and whole-blood glutathione levels.

Probiotics & Parkinsons Disease

Probiotics refer to foods or nutritional supplements that contain micro-organisms meant to support health. Probiotics therefore make up a very large category of products, including certain yogurts as well as supplements in powder and pill form. You can review the use of probiotics for general health on the NIH website here. Probiotics may work by supporting a healthy balance of micro-organisms in the microbiome, defined as the trillions of microbes that live in the human gut, and possibly by modulating the bodys immune responses.

Recently, there has been concern in medical literature that the explosion of use of probiotics in the general population has outpaced our understanding of the science behind its use. Probiotics have been linked to infection, particularly in people who have compromised immune systems . Despite insufficient scientific data to support its widespread use however, ingestion of probiotics does not typically cause problems in those with normal immune systems.

In two past blogs, I wrote about the complex relationship between the gut and PD and discussed the possibility that the microbiome in patients with PD might be different than those without PD. This has led to a research interest of whether manipulating gut bacteria in PD can be therapeutic.

Ways To Boost Glutathione Levels

Here are our top tips for naturally increasing glutathione levels:

  • : By decreasing your toxic load, you can help to support normal levels of glutathione and reduce the need for it. That means limiting alcohol consumption and reducing exposure to persistent organic pollutants , which are found in concentrated levels in conventionally grown foods 1. But this also means increasing intake of other key antioxidants like alpha-lipoid acid to reduce oxidative stress and thus reduce demand for GSH.
  • Nutrient support: Because glutathione production requires a specific set of nutrients, increasing intake of supplemental cysteine in the form of N-acetyl cysteine can help to boost the production of glutathione by ensuring sufficient substrate. Increasing intake of sulfur-rich vegetables to boost levels of methionine and cysteine is also key. These amino acids are naturally concentrated and meat and seafood, but also in cruciferous veggies, and studies show that eating sulfur-rich foods may help reduce levels of oxidative stress and boost glutathione levels 4, 5.
  • Increase vitamin C: Concentrated in many fruits and vegetables, vitamin C is another powerful antioxidant that may help to quench free radicals first, thereby sparing glutathione. Studies also show that vitamin C can help regenerate glutathione by converting oxidized glutathione back to its active form 6. Research suggests that just 500mg of vitamin C daily can elevate blood levels of glutathione by up to 47% 7!
  • Do Glutathione Injections Work

Glutathione injections are used to speed cell renewal and fight the aging process. Injections are commonly given to boost energy, clear up acne, promote skin lightening, and speed up weight loss. Injections are believed to work better than oral supplements by bypassing the digestive tract. With injections, 100% of the antioxidant is absorbed, helping it to work faster and more efficiently.

Glutathione For Parkinsons And Other Central Nervous System Disorders

Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy is pleased to provide Glutathione for use in Parkinsons disease and other central nervous system disorders such as Autism, Alzheimers, Multiple Sclerosis, and Bipolar disease.

Glutathione is an antioxidant that helps detoxify the body and neutralize free radicals while supporting the immune system. According to many published studies, Glutathione deficiency is one of the earliest signs of Parkinsons disease and other CNS disorders. Glutathione levels naturally decrease as we age, however this decline occurs much more rapidly in patients with Parkinsons disease. Low Glutathione levels can lead to nerve damage and oxidative stress.

Research now suggests that Glutathione supplementation may help to improve many neurological disorders, such as Parkinsons disease. According to one study, brain levels of Glutathione increased 240% in patients after administering through a nasal spray.

Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy is able to provide patients with Glutathione in many dosage forms including nasal spray, transdermal cream, nebulization, and intravenous injection.

Several Neurologists have requested we provide this to their patients and we happily made Glutathione available in many dosage forms at cost-effective prices. Our USP grade Glutathione is from a FDA registered facility located in the United States and has undergone a series of quality control tests to ensure the highest quality chemical is used.

Phase Iib Study Of Intranasal Glutathione In Parkinson’s Disease

    Lifewave Glutathione Patch Benefits

Study Rationale:The loss of glutathione in the brain of individuals with PD occurs years before the onset of motor symptoms. Glutathione has been proposed as neuroprotective therapy in PD for decades, but the therapy has been limited by the lack or oral availability and the invasiveness of intravenous administration. Recently, a Phase I Study of glutathione nasal spray concluded the therapy is safe and tolerable Surprisingly, this non-dopaminergic therapy was associated with an improvement in clinical symptoms. In order to design the most appropriate study to evaluate the efficacy of GSH as a PD therapeutic, it must first be determined whether or not GSH affects PD symptoms. The goal of this study is to determine whether GSH improves clinical symptoms of PD over placebo.

Hypothesis:The hypothesis of this study is that both low and high doses of GSH will improve PD clinical symptoms over placebo, as measured by the Unified PD Rating Scale .

Study Design:45 individuals with PD will be recruited from the community to receive either placebo, 300 mg, or 600 mg intranasal glutathione, GSH, daily. Participants will be asked to spray 1 ml of study medication up their nose three times daily for three months. Participants will be asked to come to a clinic visit once a month for 5 months, for a total of 5 study visits. All individuals will have clinical exams, blood draws, and urine collection 15 individuals will be invited to volunteer for additional MRI measurements.

What if I told you that Ponce de Leon was off base looking for the Fountain of Youth in Florida, because that fountain is in your own healthy liver? That may be a bit of a stretch, but your cells, especially in your liver, make a master antioxidant and detox accelerator that controls critical aspects of aging and preventing disease. That compound is called glutathione. Virtually every person with disease-related frailty is depleted in glutathione.

High glutathione levels are associated with longevity in fact, healthy people over 100 years of age have significantly higher levels of glutathione than the general population. There are over 90,000 studies published on different aspects of glutathione, on everything from Parkinsons disease, to cardiovascular damage, to cancer treatment and prevention, to autoimmune diseases, to even autism and related disorders. I could write the rest of this page on diseases for which glutathione is crucial.

Also, higher levels of glutathione are known to preserve telomeres, which are the tail ends of genes that dictate how many times the cell can regenerate. This process is intimately connected to longevity.

    The Master Antioxidant Glutathione

Shungus findings suggest that high levels of reactive oxygen species and low levels of antioxidants are part of the neuroinflammatory mix in the brain in ME/CFS. If thats true, then ME/CFS is not alone low levels of glutathione have been implicated in many central nervous system diseases as well.

The blood-brain barrier prevents the delivery of many drugs to the brain.

Glutathione the master antioxidant scavenges or neutralizes reactive oxygen species such as the hydroxyl radical in central nervous system cells, and plays a role in detoxification and other functions. If not enough glutathione is being produced relative to the oxidative or free radical load present, then the free radicals, seeking balance, will rip holes in the neighboring cells and neuroinflammation will occur.

But how to tamp down those fires? Taking glutathione in orally will not do it its bioavailability is too low. Liposomal and sublingual forms and creams have more availability and N-Acetylcysteine , a precursor, can cross the blood brain barrier, although it has to go through the general circulation first. Infusions of NAC can, however, increase brain GSH levels dramatically.

With its ease of use, intranasal glutathione could be the best option.

Glutathione is the most powerful naturally occurring antioxidant in all human cells. It is a tripeptide composed of the amino acids: glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine. Glutathione plays a substantial role in the functioning of the bodys immune system. It is the cornerstone of antioxidant defense and is a key supplement for preventing oxidative stress.

GSH is found in all cells in the body but especially in the liver, making it critically important in detoxifying and eliminating free radicals. Accumulating these dangerous compounds can result in oxidative stress, which occurs when the generation of free radicals in the body exceeds the bodys ability to neutralize and eliminate them. Free radicals are highly reactive compounds created in the body during normal metabolic functions. They can also enter the body through the environment.

    Subject Screening And Enrollment

In all, 31 individuals were screened in order to identify 15 who qualified. Most study referrals came from the Michael J Fox Foundation Trial Finder and Washington State PD Registry , with health-care providers and friends contributing to the remaining referrals . The subject population was highly diverse in terms of age, socioeconomic status, education, and geographic neighborhoods throughout the Pacific Northwest, although all participants were Caucasian. Where Can I Buy Glutathione In The Us

Glutathione is available in the US as a non-prescription, over-the-counter dietary oral supplements in various strengths, including 250 mg, 500 mg, and 1000 mg oral capsules. It is often found in pharmacies, grocery stores and other retail shops. It can also be bought online, but be careful of rogue Internet sites that may be promoting fraudulent or tainted products.

Manufacturers often promote glutathione supplements as a free-radical neutralizer, to support liver, brain and immune system function, and to reduce brain fog and improve mental clarity. However, it is important to remember that statements made by OTC manufacturers have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration , and that these products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Glutathione supplements are often used by patients with chronic health conditions such as HIV, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cancer, but evidence to prove any benefit is lacking. The reliable absorption of oral formulations is controversial and studies have been split on its effectiveness. Formulations of liposomal glutathione may be more effective, but further research is needed.

In addition to oral supplements, it has also been researched as a nasal spray, intravenously, topically and in inhaled form.
