Collins: Trump ‘encouraged’ New Health Care Deal

Maine Senator Susan Collins asks coronavirus questions of Dr. Anthony Fauci

Collins said that she was stopped everywhere she went in Maine over the past few weeks, saying most wanted her to stay in the Senate.

The people who argued for me to stay in the Senate told me that they felt I was playing such a vital role right now and the times were so tumultuous an contentious that they were worried if I were to leave that the center would sink, Collins said.

At Mass on Saturday, the day after she announced her decision, people stopped her on her walk back to her seat after Communion to thank her. That was an interesting development, she said, laughing.

The women who serve in the Senate hold regular, bipartisan dinners together. While they agree to never discuss what they talk about at those dinners, two attendees admitted that all the women encouraged Collins to remain a legislator.

Were not supposed to talk about what the women talk about when the women have dinner together but we love her service here, Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisc., said laughing.

Heitkamp, the North Dakota Democrat, feels an affinity for Collins. Both are moderates, albeit from different parties, who have felt both isolated from their party and embraced by the other at times.

Heitkamp, for example, is currently being lobbied by Republicans and the White House to support tax reform, putting her at odds with her own party that remains mostly united in opposition to the Republicans tax framework.

Foreign Policy And National Security

In 2003, Collins voted in favor of the Iraq War Resolution authorizing President Bush to go to war against Iraq. In November 2007, she was one of four Republicans to vote for a Democratic proposal of $50;billion that would condition further spending on a timeline for withdrawing troops, mandating that a withdrawal begin 30 days after the bill was enacted as part of a goal of removing all U.S. troops in Iraq by December 15, 2008. The bill failed to get the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster. In April 2008, Collins and Senators Ben Nelson and Evan Bayh met with Bush’s advisor on Iraq and Afghanistan, Douglas Lute, and expressed support for a prohibition on spending for major reconstruction projects, the proposal requiring Iraqis to pay for its security forces to be trained and equipped and reimburse the American military for the estimated $153;million a month the military spent on fueling in combat operations in Iraq. Collins said after the meeting that while the administration did not have a view entirely similar to the senators’, it at least seemed open to their proposal. In June 2014, while growing violence erupted in Iraq under the leadership of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Collins said the violence would have been slower had a residual NATO force been present in Iraq and that the question was whether airstrikes were effective.

Parkinson’s Patient: Dbs Has Given Me A Reason To Live

  • From Dartmouth-Hitchcock

Dartmouth-Hitchcock neurologist Anas Hannoun, MD, is the first physician in New England to calibrate a deep brain stimulation device remotely.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans live with neurological movement disorders, such as Parkinsons disease.

People who live with movement disorders must deal with symptoms like uncontrolled movements, problems with physical coordination and balance, muscle weakness, stiffness and others which can make performing the most basic daily functions brushing teeth or buttoning a blouse frustrating or even impossible.

Patients with Parkinsons, like Jeanne Collins of Manchester, have found relief for their symptoms through deep brain stimulation , whereby electrodes are surgically inserted into a targeted area of the brain and an impulse generator battery , similar to a pacemaker, is implanted under the collarbone or in the abdomen to send electrical impulses to the electrodes to stimulate motor function.

People who have DBS devices can adjust the devices using a manual controller, but must also see their neurologists every three-to-six months to recalibrate the IPG and electrodes.

If you had told me six months ago that I would have the capability to program a DBS device remotely, Id have said, No way, yet here we are, said Hannoun.

Hospitalized multiple times due to falls, her symptoms forced her to give up her hairdressing career and her home.

Gop Adviser Says Sen Susan Collins Is ‘dead Woman Walking’ After Vote For New Testimony In Impeachment Trial

During an interview with Fox Business host Lou Dobbs on Friday, Fox News political analyst and Republican Party adviser Ed Rollins called Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins a “dead woman walking” after her vote to hear new witness testimony during the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

Collins, along with Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney, aligned their votes with House Democrats in a failed effort to get the vote for witnesses and new documents approved. That motion was voted down in the Senate by a vote of 51-49.

Rollins said Trump was in a “fabulous place” because of the practically unanimous support he is currently enjoying from the Republican party.

“With the exception of Romney and Collins, who probably signed her death warrant today,” Rollins said, “this party is united behind this president and basically backed him 100 percent in the house, 99 percent in the Senate.”

Because of her vote Rollins said, “Collins is a dead woman walking. She’s not going to get any Democrats to vote for her because she’s a Republican. They’re not going to vote for her.”

Collins explained the reasoning behind her vote in a statement released Thursday.

Rollins also implied that Romney would suffer politically for his vote.

“He’s dropping like a rock,” Rollins said. “A state legislator has a bill in Utah to impeach him. I think he’s going to pay a heavy price.”

The Courage Of Senator Susan Collins

Senator Susan Collins of Maine made the only sensible choice on Monday, announcing that she would not support the Republican presidential nominee, Donald J. Trump, in November. She joins Governor Charlie Baker of Massachusetts, five other Republican senators, and a growing list of GOP congressmen who have repudiated Trump. The lone holdout in the New England Senate delegation is Senator Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, and with each passing day her continued support for Trump becomes more inexcusable.

Collins, a lifelong Republican, outlined her objections to Trump in an op-ed for The Washington Post. She cited grave concerns about his fitness for office. Trumps lack of self-restraint and his barrage of ill-informed comments would make an already perilous world even more so. .;.;. tendency to lash out when challenged further escalates the possibility of disputes spinning dangerously out of control.

Many senior Republicans with long resumes of service to the GOP have reached similar conclusions. Also on Monday, 50 Republican national security officials condemned Trump, saying he would be the most reckless president in American history. On Tuesday, former Republican Environmental Protection Agency heads endorsed Hillary Clinton. The opponents range from rock-ribbed conservatives like Ted Cruz to moderates like Collins, because the objection to Trump is not just ideological. His temperamental unsuitability for the job transcends all political labels.

Looks Like Hilaria And Alec Baldwin Have A New Baby

Huh, well, it appears Hilaria or should I say Hillary? and Alec Baldwin have welcomed a sixth child. Thats based on a photo Hilaria posted to on Monday , in which she can be seen lounging with six kids: Carmen Gabriela , Rafael Thomas , Leonardo Ángel Charles , Romeo Alejandro David , Eduardo Edu Pao Lucas , and an infant whose name and age has not yet been disclosed. Although Hilarias Instagram bio still describes her as the mama to five Baldwinitos, a rep for the couple told Page Six theyre still not issuing a statement or confirming anything, but what she posted stands. Which I think is a cagey way of saying that they now have another baby!

The addition feels somewhat surprising, considering that Hilaria just gave birth in September. In November, she suggested to People that Edu would likely be the last baby, saying, during times of COVID, it;very much feels like were done and also Im so tired. Then again, she left the question of another kid open when speaking to Us Weekly in April, explaining: Ive learned that I thought I was gonna have one kid and now, all of the sudden, I have a gigantic brood, so who knows?

CARIBOU, Maine U.S. Sen. Susan Collins married longtime Senate senior staff member and consultant Thomas A. Daffron in a small ceremony attended by about 50 people on Saturday.

The Rev. Dr. Thomas Bentum performed the ceremony at 11 a.m. at Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, the church long attended by Collins father, Donald.

The bride wore an off-white, sleeveless, full-length gown festooned with antique lace that observers admired for its class and simplicity, while the groom, escorted by University of Maine athletic director and former Collins chief of staff Steve Abbott, wore a navy blue suit.

You look beautiful! Oh, yes you do. Have lots of pictures taken, shouted one onlooker as the newlyweds stood outside the church after the half-hour ceremony and another 45 minutes of wedding portraiture. Lovely dress!

Thank you, Collins said with a blush.

Im so happy to be married in my hometown, Collins added before the newlyweds headed to the Caribou Inn and Convention Center, where the wedding reception was held. Collins and Daffron are scheduled to leave Saturday for a honeymoon at an undisclosed location.

Susan Collins, the Maine Senator and moderate Republican whose vote will be crucial in the Brett Kavanaugh nomination, is from a family with a long tradition of public service.

Susan Collins married later in life in 2012, and she does not have children. Collins is married to Thomas Daffron, who was well-known for decades in the halls of Congress, working as a chief of staff for top Republican Senators, including Alaskas Lisa Murkowski, the other moderate Republican on whose vote the Kavanaugh confirmation partly hinges. Her parents were both involved in politics, as were other family members.

Collins announced on Friday that she is voting yes for Kavanaughs nomination. With Arizona Republican Jeff Flake also saying hes a yes unless something big changes things, that means that Kavanaugh would have enough votes even if Joe Manchin and Lisa Murkowski- the other undecided senators say no. Thats because it would then go to Vice President Mike Pence in a tie-breaker, and he would also certainly put Kavanaugh through.
