What theyve achieved: Since their founding, Hope Charities have served over 3,000 requests for assistance, including $1.2 million in financial aid, to support affected patients and their families. For example, they have provided medical benefits to over 1,200 patients, housing to over 900 individuals, and utilities and transportation to over 300 individuals.

What they do: The American Kidney Fund fights the burdens of kidney diseases through research, treatment, legislation, and awareness. Theyve been driving kidney research since 1988 with their Clinical Scientist in Nephrology program. And their members work with Congress, and state governments to support policies essential for kidney patients.
What theyve achieved: Since their founding, the American Kidney Fund have helped patients with kidney disease from prevention to life-saving treatments to post-transplant living. For example, in 2021 alone, their support enabled 157 kidney transplants per month, they helped more than 80,000 dialysis and recent transplant patients to cover healthcare-related expenses, and they also provided more than $450,000 in disaster grants to more than 2,400 kidney patients affected by natural disasters. In addition, their research team of 51 scientists advances neurological research related to kidney diseases.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Of America
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the largest donor and volunteer based mentoring group in the U.S. Kids ages five and up are matched with a mentor who helps the kids learn about positive relationships and reach their individual potential. The group allocates about 90% of its funds to program implementation.

The ACLU describes itself as the “defender of the U.S. Constitution” who seeks to uphold the Bill of Rights for all people in the United States. Volunteers and attorneys help fight for individual freedoms around the country. They use about 84% of funds on programming and services to help defend individuals or specific groups in need.

Symptoms such as shoulder pain, depression, sleep problems, constipation and loss of sense of smell can begin long before any of the motor symptoms appear. Because symptoms like these can be subtle at first, they are not always evident or meaningful before diagnosis. It is common after being diagnosed with Parkinsons to look back and realize symptoms had been coming on gradually for months or even years. Often people explore other treatment avenues for early symptoms, like physical therapy or even surgery for pain, only to discover later it was actually connected to Parkinsons.
Since doctors diagnose other medical conditions using sophisticated technology, many are surprised to learn a Parkinsons diagnosis is based on your medical history and a simple examination. While your healthcare provider may take other steps, such as order blood and urine tests, check copper levels and order a brain scan, such as an MRI or CT or DaTscan that measures dopamine, these tests do not diagnose Parkinsons. They are used to either confirm the diagnosis or determine if another medical condition is causing your symptoms.
Everyones experience of Parkinsons will be unique, and a person with YOPD may have similar symptoms as someone diagnosed later in life.

What they do: The American Chronic Pain Association offers peer support and education in pain management skills to people with pain, their family and friends, and employees from the healthcare industry. What theyve achieved: Since their founding, the American Chronic Pain Association has helped countless people to better live with and manage their chronic pain. Mindy Flinn joined the MMRF in May 2020 as the Vice President of Development where she works with a talented team raising philanthropic support for the organization. She brings over 23 years of development experience to this position. Ms. Flinn spent over a decade in development at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and in Jacksonville, FL, where she oversaw the stewardship of top-level benefactors and served as a major gift officer. She also worked for the LIVESTRONG Foundation in Austin, TX as a major gift officer and was Director of Philanthropic Resources at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Prior to joining the MMRF, she was Senior Director of Development at Yale School of Medicine. Ms. Flinn received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bethel University and a Master of Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University.
