LifeWays Ridgecrest Baptist Conference Center near Asheville, N.C. is the new home of the statue.

Born William Franklin Graham on Nov. 7, 1918, “Americas pastor” came from modest means and grew up on a dairy farm in Charlotte, North Carolina. He found his spiritual path at 16, charmed by the traveling minister and temperance movement leader Mordecai Ham. Graham later moved to Florida and was ordained there in 1939.
He met his future wife, Ruth McCue Bell, while they attended Wheaton College, and they married in 1943. Together they would raise five children, and she would become a trusted adviser.

Graham’s body will arrive at the Billy Graham Training Center in Asheville on Thursday. On Saturday, a private family prayer service will take place and a motorcade will transport the body to the Billy Graham headquarters in Charlotte, DeMoss said. The body will lie in repose at the Graham Family Homeplace with a closed casket from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on at least Monday and Tuesday, he said.
Graham’s body will also be brought to the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. next Wednesday, where the body will lie in honor until March 1, House Speaker Paul Ryan’s office announced Thursday. The public will be able to pay their respects.

Larry Ross, in a statement issued through the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association in Minneapolis, said Graham has
known for about three years he is in the disease’s early stages.
“His early manifestations were a mild tremor that causes
difficulty in handwriting and some difficulty in gait and
in descending steps without a rail,” Ross said. “Both
symptoms improved significantly with a modest amount of medication.
“Otherwise, he is in excellent health and will continue
his normal activities, such as crusades and writing, for
the foreseeable future.”
Graham told organizers of last week’s five-night crusade
in Philadelphia the illness is in its early stages and that
he is being treated for it, the Charlotte Observer reported today.
“He just said it’s starting,” said Nelson Diaz, administrative
judge of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and chairman
of the crusade that drew 200,700 people to Veterans Stadium.
“He was just sharing with us how his health is deteriorating
and that he needs to slow down.”
Diaz said the 73-year-old Graham told a small group of relatives
and friends about the illness on June 20.
“He just says he’s the oldest living evangelist, that it
gets more and more difficult,” Diaz said.

A representative said he had grown increasingly weak since his 95th birthday celebration earlier that month. He marked his birthday by releasing âThe Cross,â a pre-recorded sermon that he said would likely be his last message to the public. It was nationally televised.
Graham had been diagnosed with Parkinsonâs disease, but in October 2013, his son, Franklin Graham, told Parade magazine that the diagnosis was incorrect.

The son of the Rev. Billy Graham confirmed Friday that his father indeed has Parkinson’s disease, contrary to comments he made Wednesday.
During a radio interview and at a Senate hearing earlier this week, Franklin Graham said doctors discovered that his father did not have the disease, but instead has normal pressure hydrocephalus, a disorder caused by blockage of fluid to the brain.Doctors at the Mayo Clinic, however, said Friday the 81-year-old Montreat evangelist suffers from both problems. They recently performed surgery to relieve fluid buildup around his brain.
Graham has “an element of Parkinson’s disease that continues to require treatment,’ Mayo Clinic spokesman John Murphy said.
Graham was diagnosed with the degenerative brain condition about six years ago.
Mark DeMoss, a spokesman for the younger Graham, said Franklin Graham was reacting to improvements in his father’s condition following the surgery.
He said Franklin Graham spoke without first consulting his father’s doctors.

Evangelist Billy Graham tackled the topic of death often and with surprising frankness for a man who made his living telling people the Good News of salvation in Christ. Graham died Wednesday at the age of 99 in his home in Montreat, N.C.
When Graham preached, he said that death was, of course, inevitable. As no one knew when Christ would return, he said, everyone should think instead about the sure thing they did know: the certainty of their own death. In 1959, during a three-month revival campaign in Australia, Graham drew 3.2 million people. “His magnetic personality has broken down his most cynical critics,” wrote the Melbourne Herald. His message was invariably direct and uncomplicated.
