Treatment Of Essential Tremor
There is no cure for essential tremor. Treatment aims to suppress the involuntary movements. To identify the best treatment, you should consult with a Neurologist. Treatments can include:
- avoidance of known triggers, such as alcohol or caffeine
- some medications used to treat other medical conditions, such as heart disease and epilepsy these medications have been helpful in some cases
- other medications, including tranquillisers
- deep brain stimulation, a surgically implanted device that helps to short-circuit the impulses or brain waves causing the tremor
- brain surgery to alter the part of the brain causing the tremor has been successful in some cases
- MRI guided focused ultrasound
- regular monitoring and observation if the tremor is mild and doesnt stop the person from performing their usual activities, this may be the only treatment.
In some cases, alcohol may reduce the tremors. However, this is not a recommended treatment, because long-term consumption of alcohol has significant health risks.

A good gauge is, if you can have a conversation with someone while exercising, you should probably increase your intensity.

Fitness Tips To Manage Pd Symptoms
- Choose an exercise program that you will actually do! Dont design a great, Parkinsons-specific program and then skip it because its too hard or not fun.
- Follow a varied routine. Perform simple stretches and posture exercises daily, and make sure to include aerobic and strengthening exercises several times per week.
- Keep intensity at a level that feels somewhat hard for you.
- Consider joining an exercise class or group. Classes are good motivation and also provide an opportunity to socialize. Trained instructors give clear guidelines and offer modifications.
- Try exercise videos or home exercise equipment if it is difficult to get out.
- Music can enhance performance by providing rhythm to coordinate movement.

What Kind Of Exercise Can I Do If I Have Trouble Standing Or Walking
Even with advanced Parkinsons symptoms, you can still reap the benefits of some activities. If you have trouble walking or balancing, hold a bar or rail to exercise and stretch. If standing or getting up is tough, exercise and stretch in a chair or bed. Physical exercise performed in a seated position, such as biking on a recumbent bike can allow you to exert yourself in a safe manner.
Facial exercises may help combat difficulties speaking or swallowing:
- Chew your food longer and more vigorously.
- Exaggerate your face and lip movements when you speak.
- Make faces in the mirror.
- Sing or read out loud.
Mental exercises give your brain a workout and can improve memory. For example:
- Name as many animals as you can in 1 minute.
- Play brain games and do puzzles.
- Solve math problems in your head.

- Park further away from stores so you walk longer distances.
- Stretch or do leg exercises while watching TV.
- Swing your arms more when you walk, and take long strides.

How Is A Diagnosis Made
There is no medical test that can confirm a diagnosis of ET. Your physician will review your medical history and family history, and will conduct a physical exam. He or she will explore whether another condition is causing your tremors by conducting a neurological exam and ordering laboratory tests. Your doctor also may give you a performance test, in which you are asked to drink from a glass, hold your arms outstretched, write your name, or draw a spiral.
Essential tremor is sometimes misdiagnosed as Parkinsons disease. But whereas people with Parkinsons often have balance problems, slowness of movement, and freezing of gait, people with ET only rarely have problems in their legs.

It is important to state upfront that there is no one best type of exercise for people with PD. It is most important to choose an exercise regimen that you enjoy, and will continue to do.

What Causes Essential Tremor
The cause of essential tremor is unknown. However, one theory suggests that your cerebellum and other parts of your brain are not communicating correctly. The cerebellum controls muscle coordination.
In most people, the condition seems to be passed down from a parent to a child. If your parent has ET, there is a 50% chance you or your children will inherit the gene responsible for the condition. Sometimes, ancillary testing such as brain imaging or genetic testing may help with the diagnosis.

What Are The Symptoms Of Parkinsons Disease
Symptoms of Parkinsons disease differ from person to person. They also change as the disease progresses. Symptoms that one person gets in the early stages of the disease, another person may not get until lateror not at all.
Symptoms most often start between the ages of 50 and 60. They develop slowly. They often go unnoticed by family, friends, and even the person who has them.
The disease causes motor symptoms and non-motor symptoms. Motor symptoms are those that have to do with how you move. The most common one is tremor.
Tremor and other motor symptoms
Tremor, or shaking, often in a hand, arm, or leg, occurs when youre awake and sitting or standing still . It gets better when you move that body part.
- Tremor is often the first symptom that people with Parkinsons disease or their family members notice.
- At first the tremor may appear in just one arm or leg or only on one side of the body. The tremor also may affect the chin, lips, and tongue.
- As the disease progresses, the tremor may spread to both sides of the body. But in some cases the tremor stays on just one side.
Emotional and physical stress tends to make the tremor more noticeable. Sleep, complete relaxation, and intentional movement or action usually reduce or stop the tremor.
The most common cause of non-Parkinsons tremor is essential tremor. Its a treatable condition that is often wrongly diagnosed as Parkinsons.
