UAB Department of Neurology is home to an Advanced Center for Parkinson’s Research supported by the American Parkinson Disease Association. The Center is directed by Dr. David Standaert with a comprehensive team of experts.

APDA Centers for Advanced Research must meet the highest academic standards and be distinguished leaders in the field of PD research. There are eight such centers across the country

Purpose: George C. Cotzias, MD was a pathfinder in the pharmacologic exploration of brain functions and in the treatment of Parkinsons disease with levodopa. His work stimulated much of the current interest and research on neurological movement disorders. Healthcare professionals were asked to resort to telemedicine for all other, either time-sensitive or functionally disabling, indications.
