The Walk for Parkinson is more than just a Walk. It highlights movement and exercise as a symbol of hope and progress in finding a cure. Our annual fundraiser brings people together to raise awareness and funds for local community programs and research to find a cure. Events range from fun runs, swimming events to endurance events with most events catering for all ages and various fitness levels. Its simple to get involved just register for an event, create a fundraising page and ask your friends and family to donate.

100% of every dollar you raise is invested into cutting-edge Parkinsons research right here in Australia our founders cover all the administration costs of the foundation so your fundraising can make a real difference.

A Walk in the Park aims to provide an opportunity for people living in Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast show their support and to raise awareness and vital funds to support those living with Parkinsons.

There are over 27,000 people in Victoria living with Parkinsons. We want to acknowledge them and increase awareness of Parkinsons as well as raise money to support the invaluable work that Fight Parkinsons do.

At A Walk in the Park Geelong we want people to know that there is a supportive community to share your journey we are all in this together and you and your family dont have to face your Parkinsons journey alone.

This year you can buy a limited edition beanie or cap to show your support while you are out walking.

The 28th Parkinsons Unity Walk Will Be Held In Central Park On Saturday April 23 2022

Come out and have fun!

Check in at the registration then start your walk when you are ready between 8:30 and 11:30 AM. Leave time to visit informational booths and opportunities to talk to healthcare experts.

The fundraiser will also include virtual programming at unitywalk.org for those who would like to join from home.

100% of donations support Parkinsons disease research funded by four major U.S. Parkinsons foundations. In 27 years more than $28 million have been raised to advance treatments and work towards a cure. The Unity Walk raises critical funds and awareness while presenting a day for the Parkinsons community to celebrate, learn, and connect.

Join us for our 21st Annual Stamp Out Parkinsons Walk, one of the most significant grassroots community fundraising events to support people with Parkinsons and their families in the Philadelphia region and Delaware Valley.

Our inspiration this year is Family Strong. Battling Parkinsons Disease takes a village, which includes our relatives, friends, and our community of supporters and health care providers.

We are a small but mighty organization and this year we have invested $243,525 in grant funding to local organizations that support our Parkinsons Family. Your contribution and participation in this years walk help grow and strengthen the programs and services like the Cooper Neurological Institute, Music Matters, the Penn Parkinsons Disease and Movement Disorders Center, and more.

How Hard Should I Exercise If I Have Parkinson’s Disease

A rating of perceived exertion is a good way to measure intensity. On a scale from 0 to 10, 0 would be how you feel while sitting or lying down, while 10 would be the maximum effort you can give. Building up to an effort between 5 to 8 means you are exercising at a high intensity. A good gauge is, if you can have a conversation with someone while exercising, you should probably increase your intensity.

If I Exercise Will I Still Need My Parkinsons Medications

Some people find that exercise helps them reduce the doses of Parkinsons medications over time. But exercise is not a replacement for your medications. In fact, some people need more medications so they can stay active. Dont make changes to your medications without talking to your healthcare providers.

What Kind Of Exercise Can I Do If I Have Trouble Standing Or Walking

Even with advanced Parkinsons symptoms, you can still reap the benefits of some activities. If you have trouble walking or balancing, hold a bar or rail to exercise and stretch. If standing or getting up is tough, exercise and stretch in a chair or bed. Physical exercise performed in a seated position, such as biking on a recumbent bike can allow you to exert yourself in a safe manner.

Facial exercises may help combat difficulties speaking or swallowing:

  • Chew your food longer and more vigorously.
  • Exaggerate your face and lip movements when you speak.
  • Make faces in the mirror.
  • Sing or read out loud.

Mental exercises give your brain a workout and can improve memory. For example:

  • Name as many animals as you can in 1 minute.
  • Play brain games and do puzzles.
  • Solve math problems in your head.

You can also add activity in small bits throughout your day:

  • Park further away from stores so you walk longer distances.
  • Stretch or do leg exercises while watching TV.
  • Swing your arms more when you walk, and take long strides.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Sunday 30th October – Walk Palmerston North

The Red Tulip Walk is a community & family-oriented walk. The walk aims to bring the community together to raise awareness for Parkinson’s in a safe and fun way.

Held on the Sunday 30th October 2022 the Palmerston North walk is a community & family-oriented walk. The walk will take you along a stunning 5-km circuit track starting from Panieri Park to the He Ara Kotahi bridge and return or continue to the Fitzherbert Bridge for the return 7.5km walk.

Walk starts 9am Sun or Rain.

Join Celebrity walker and ex-All-Black Christian Cullen. The walk aims to bring the community together to raise awareness for Parkinson’s in a safe and fun way. The overall theme will focus on the health and well-being of all whnau.

Why We Walk For Parkinsons Research

We are the Torrington Area Parkinsons Support Group, a 501c3 charity. We are people with Parkinsons disease, family, care partners and concerned community members. We meet monthly on Saturday mornings at Torringtons Sullivan Senior Center. All affected by Parkinsons disease are welcome to join our group and attend meetings. To learn more about TAPSG, visit www.torringtonparkinsonssupportgroup.com/ The Walk in the Woods for Parkinsons supports Parkinsons research, increases awareness of PD and provides support for local people who struggle daily with Parkinsons disease. PD affects 6.3 million people around the world. 1 in 100 people over the age of 60 will be affected by Parkinsons disease. We educate the public about PD and help those affected by it. Our membership numbers more than 150.Through our first ten walks, we have donated more than $100,000 to support the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research. Additionally, we have funded programs for area citizens with PD. We are manned totally by volunteers who hope to expand support of TAPSG members and their families affected by Parkinsons disease. Join more than 1,500 participants to promote community awareness about Parkinsons and raise funds that support the programs and services provided by PAR. Choose where to walk! The 27th Annual Parkinsons Unity Walk Was Held Virtually This Year Exceeding Expectations Raising More Than $600000 To Fund Parkinsons Disease Research

Since its inception, the Unity Walk has raised more than $28 million to improve the lives of people with Parkinsons and to work towards a cure!

KINGSTON, N.J. The Parkinson Alliance is pleased to announce that the 27th Virtual Parkinsons Unity Walk held on Saturday, April 24, 2021, raised more than $600,000 to support critical research, including the development of new therapies to improve the quality of life for those living with Parkinsons disease and bringing us one step closer in the search for a cure.

One hundred percent of donations raised helps fund Parkinsons disease research for four leading organizations: American Parkinson Disease Association, Parkinsons Foundation, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research, and The Parkinson Alliance.

Since its inception in 1994, the Parkinsons Unity Walk mission has been to raise funds and awareness for Parkinsons disease research. The fact that we raised more critical funds for research during this second virtual Walk speaks to the commitment and tenacity of the Parkinsons community stated Martin Tuchman, Chairman of The Parkinson Alliance.

Information about research grants funded by the 2021 Parkinsons Unity Walk will be posted on the Unity Walks website later this year.

Where Can I Find Support If I Have Parkinson’s Disease And Want To Exercise

You can find exercise support in your community. For example, many gyms and community centers offer seated exercise classes for people who struggle with balance. Ask your healthcare provider for ideas if you have Parkinsons disease and want to exercise.

Parkinsons Walk 22ND Annual 2021

Exercise is a planned, structured, repetitive activity that is intended to improve physical fitness. There is no right exercise for people with Parkinsons. Everyones regimen will differ, depending on overall health, symptoms and previous level of activity. Any exercise helps, and a variety of exercise types may provide well-rounded benefits.

Aerobic exercise

Aerobic exercise involves activities that challenge your cardiorespiratory system such as walking, biking, running, and activities in the pool. Participating in aerobic exercise at least three days a week for 30-40 minutes may slow Parkinsons decline.

Strength training

Strength training involves using your body weight or other tools to build muscle mass and strength. Strength training two days per week, starting with low repetition and weight, may be beneficial in Parkinsons disease. A focus on extensor muscles, or muscles in the back of the body, can help with posture.

Flexibility training

Stretching two or more days per week can be beneficial to maintain range of motion and posture. Holding each stretch of major muscle groups for 30 to 60 seconds can improve muscle length.

Balance and agility training

This type of training often combines aerobic exercise, strength training, and flexibility training. Examples include:

  • Tai chi, yoga or Pilates.
