She won our confidence with her three-term record in the U.S. Senate representing the state of Minnesota.

She won our confidence with the way she’s campaigned in Iowa for more than a year.

She won our endorsement by convincing us that, among her rivals, in this divided political culture, she is the best person to push through an agenda that will better the lives of millions of Americans, including those of us who live in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

Hes An Attorney And Professor

Bessler is currently a private practice attorney as well as a professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law, a position hes held since 2009. Hes an expert on the death penalty, and has also clerked for U.S. Magistrate Judge John M. Mason of the District of Minnesota, and also practiced law as a partner at Kelly & Berens.

Statement From Senator Amy Klobuchar

I wanted to share an update about my health.

In February of this year, doctors at Mayo Clinic found small white spots called calcifications during a routine mammogram. After this was discovered, I had a biopsy at Piper Breast Center in Minneapolis, and then learned that I had Stage 1A breast cancer.

After a number of other tests, I returned to Mayo and had a lumpectomy on the right breast which involved the removal of the cancer. In May, I completed a course of radiation treatment, and after additional follow-up visits, it was determined in August that the treatment went well.

Of course this has been scary at times, since cancer is the word all of us fear, but at this point my doctors believe that my chances of developing cancer again are no greater than the average person.

I want to thank the incredible doctors and nurses I had the privilege to work with, my friends and loving family including my husband John and daughter Abigail for their support during the surgery and radiation, which also coincided with my dads illness and death. Their support allowed me to continue my work with my colleagues on major pandemic and economic legislation, as well as chairing the joint Senate January 6th investigation and the For the People hearings while undergoing cancer treatment.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar visited to raise awareness of the Steve Gleason Act, legislation supporting those with ALS and other diseases that affect a person’s ability to communicate.

Pete Klinkhammer was a social worker for more than two decades before he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosisalso known as ALS or Lou Gehrigs disease.

ALS is a progressive degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the bodys brain and spinal cord. As these cells become damaged or die, the person may lose the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe.;

The disease and its effects took center stage on Sunday, Feb. 25, during a special event at the University of Minnesota Health Clinics and Surgery Center. United States Sen. Amy Klobuchar toured the ALS Certified Center of Excellence within the Clinics and Surgery Center as part of her effort to raise awareness for the Steve Gleason Act, a law that she co-sponsored.

The legislation, which was recently signed into law, will help ensure access to speech generating devices for individuals with communication disabilities associated with ALS, cerebral palsy and Rett syndrome. Because ALS often affects a persons ability to speak or use his or her hands, a digital speech generating device can serve as a vital communications link.;

Prior to this legislation, speech generating devices were not covered by Medicare or Medicaid if patient was living in a hospital or care facility other than his or her own home.

Congressional caucuses are formed by members of Congress to provide a forum for issues or legislative agendas. Role In The Democratic Party

On March 30, 2008, Klobuchar announced her endorsement of Senator Barack Obama in the Democratic presidential primary, promising her superdelegate vote to him. She cited Obama’s performance in the Minnesota caucuses, where he won with 66% of the popular vote, as well as her own “independent judgment”. In 2016 she was an early supporter of Hillary Clinton‘s second campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Klobuchar has served as the chair of the U.S. Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee since 2015.
