Every Step Counts At The 21st Parkinsons Unity Walk On April 25th At Central Park In New York City

About the Parkinson’s Unity Walk

The largest grassroots Parkinsons fundraiser in the U.S. aiming to raise awareness and funds for research to find a cure

KINGSTON, N.J. The Parkinson Alliance announced today that the 21st Parkinsons Unity Walk will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2015, in a 1.4 mile Walk around New York Citys Central Park. With over 11,000 participants last year, The Parkinsons Unity Walk is the largest grassroots fundraiser for Parkinsons disease research in the country. The Walk unites thousands of participants from across the country and supporters from around the world, in one common goal to raise awareness and funds to support research for better treatments of Parkinsons disease. The ultimate goal is to educate our community and garner enough financial support to one day find a cure.

Since the first Walk in 1994, the Unity Walk has gone from raising $16,000 in research funds, to over $1,600,000 in 2014, said Martin Tuchman, Chairman of The Parkinson Alliance, the umbrella organization for the Parkinsons Unity Walk. This level of consistent growth is a reflection of how successful each walk has been for the past two decades, as well the growing support from the community.

Fortunately, the generous support from our sponsors allows 100% of donations to go to research funded by seven major U.S. Parkinsons disease foundations. Our sponsors include AbbVie, Lundbeck, Teva CNS, UCB, US WorldMeds, Boston Scientific, LSVT Global, and SpeechVive.

Th Annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk Returns To Central Park Since Start Of Pandemic

NEW YORK At the start of the pandemic in March 2020, organizers of the Parkinsons Unity Walk thought the annual fundraising event could still go on as normal the following month. But as the coronavirus continued to wreak havoc on the world, it became clear that the Parkinsons Unity Walk wasnt going to happen as planned for 2020 and again in 2021.

This year, the Parkinsons Unity Walk is back for its 28th year on Saturday after a two-year in-person hiatus and organizers are excited about the return to the live event.

It’s so interesting every time I tell somebody about the 28th walk, I take in person and make it capital. Carol Walton, Executive Director of the Parkinsons Unity Walk told 1010 WINS’ Sharon Barnes-Waters. That’s one of the biggest things is that we are back and we are in person.

While the excitement builds over seeing new faces and old friends in-person, organizers are ensuring precautions are still in place for the walk in Central Park.

We really want people to know that we are trying to do everything we can to make people feel more comfortable, Walton said. The booths are farther apart. We have seating sections that are farther apart. We have masks for people. We have sanitizing stations. We’re doing everything we can even though we are outside to make people feel more comfortable coming back to the park.

KINGSTON, N.J. The Parkinson Alliance is pleased to announce that the 28th Parkinsons Unity Walk held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, raised over $850,000 for vital research to support the development of new therapies, and improve the quality of life for those living with Parkinsons disease. One hundred percent of funds will go directly to research funded by four major U.S. Parkinsons disease organizations.

Since the inception of the Parkinsons Unity Walk in 1994, its mission has been to raise funds for Parkinsons disease research. Our rally cry in the early years was to find a cure for Parkinsons disease, and our mission is the same today. We have seen new therapies, treatments, and research studies that are leading us closer to a cure year after year. Your ongoing support and donations make all difference as we unite in this cause, stated Martin Tuchman, Chairman of The Parkinson Alliance.

All donations from the Parkinsons Unity Walk will be distributed to Parkinsons disease organizations for the sole purpose of funding research grants. For 2022, the organizations benefiting from the distribution of donations are the American Parkinson Disease Association, Parkinsons Foundation, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research, and The Parkinson Alliance.
