Fish oil and Parkinson’s disease

Poor health management may result in Parkinsons disease problems during later years of human life. Obesity has a close connection with altered levels of dopamine in the human brain and in midlife; it triples the risk related to the development of Parkinsons disease. Manage your medical problems properly to prevent Parkinsons disease.

Curcumin Helps Balance Brain Chemicals & Protect Brain Cells

Curcumin promotes the heat shock response and stimulates the vitagenes and . In turn this increases production of the bodys own antioxidants and helps defend the brain from free radical damage.;

Some scientists caution that too much HO-1 can lead to iron deposits in the cells damaged in Parkinsons disease. However, animal studies show that curcumin only induces protective amounts of it. Whole turmeric also contains , vitamin C, and all of which can help regulate HO-1 production. Lab studies indicate that curcumin also increases levels of the bodys own potent natural antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase .;

Pine Bark Extract Aids Parkinsons Patients

In a 2020 study from Italys Chieti-Pescara University, researchers tested 43 Parkinsons disease patients. They had been diagnosed at least a year earlier. They were split into two groups. One group was given the standard treatment of carbidopa or levodopa. The other group also received this standard treatment, but also received 150 milligrams per day of the pine bark extract Pycnogenol®.

The researchers tested the patients for Parkinsons symptoms, including tremor, bradychinesia and cognitive functions before and after the study period. They utilized the visual scale line with scores between 0 and 4.

After only four weeks, the researchers tested the patients again. The pine bark group had significantly fewer symptoms, including the motor function, posture stability and cognitive functions. Cognitive functions were particularly higher according to the researchers.

The study authors wrote:

After 4 weeks, these target symptoms were attenuated with the supplement more than with the standard management only.

Summary:
Scientists show that an omega three fatty acid in the diet protects brain cells by preventing the misfolding of a protein resulting from a gene mutation in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Huntington’s.

Dr. Nicolas Bazan, Director of the Neuroscience Center of Excellence, Boyd Professor, and Ernest C. and Yvette C. Villere Chair of Retinal Degenerative Diseases Research at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, will present new research findings showing that an omega three fatty acid in the diet protects brain cells by preventing the misfolding of a protein resulting from a gene mutation in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Huntington’s.

He will present these findings for the first time on April 19, 2009 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Nouvelle C Room, at the American Society for Nutrition, Experimental Biology 2009 Annual Meeting.

Dr. Bazan’s laboratory discovered earlier that neuroprotectin D1 , a naturally-occurring molecule in the human brain that is derived from DHA also promotes brain cell survival. In this system NPD1 is capable of rescue the dying cells with the pathological type of Ataxin-1, keeping their integrity intact.

Abstract

1. Introduction

Vitamins are natural bioactive products with antioxidant properties, which are necessities for maintaining the normal functions of human organisms. Essential vitamins cannot be endogenously synthesized in the organism and therefore must be obtained through the diet. Clinically, vitamin deficiency is quite common, especially in infants and elderly. Vitamins are generally divided into fat-soluble variants and water-soluble variants . The former mainly bind to cellular nuclear receptors and affect the expression of specific genes . The latter mainly constitute a cofactor for the enzyme, affecting the enzymatic activity .

Vitamin C and vitamin E are both antioxidants. One study that evaluated these vitamins found they helped delay the need for PD drugs. Taking vitamin E alone did not seem to have the same benefit. However, vitamin E supplements can increase the risk of bleeding, especially in those who take blood thinners. Vitamin E has also been studied for its potential to reduce the risk of developing PD. However, dietary intake of vitamin E did not show any reduction in the risk of developing PD.3,5

Foods Containing Saturated Fat And Cholesterol

Some studies suggest that dietary fat intake may increase the risk of Parkinsons.

Although having a higher intake of cholesterol can elevate a persons Parkinsons risk, having a higher intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids may reduce the risk.

Therefore, a person with Parkinsons may wish to reduce their intake of cholesterol to help control the symptoms of the condition. They may also wish to reduce the amount of saturated fat in their diet.

However, further studies are required to explore the link between dietary fat and Parkinsons.

Foods Containing Nutrients That People May Be Deficient In

4 Natural Ways to Prevent Parkinson

Some research suggests that people with Parkinsons often have certain nutrient deficiencies, including deficiencies in iron, vitamin B1, vitamin C, zinc, and vitamin D.

The above study points out that some of these deficiencies may be associated with neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration, which are key factors in Parkinsons.

Therefore, people with Parkinsons may wish to consume more of the following foods.

Foods containing iron

The following foods are good sources of iron:

  • liver
  • certain fortified foods

Foods That Are Hard To Chew

Many people with Parkinsons have difficulty with chewing and swallowing foods. A person needs medical help if this is the case. A speech and language therapist may be able to help a person overcome this issue.

However, if a person is finding certain foods hard to chew and swallow, they may wish to avoid these foods.

Such foods include:

  • dry, crumbly foods
  • tough or chewy meats

If a person does wish to eat chewy meats, they could try using gravy or sauce to soften them and make eating easier.

They could also try chopping meat into smaller pieces or incorporating meat into casseroles, which can make it more tender.

Having a drink with a meal can also make chewing and swallowing easier.

Side Effects & Precautions With Vitamin E Use

Dietary vitamin E is safe, and changes in diet are sufficient to combat Vit E deficiency.

The most common side effect associated with high dose vitamin E is its blood thinning or antiplatelet activity. If you are already taking blood thinners, avoid high dose Vit E.

Tocopherol supplements may interact with medications such as niacin, simvastatin or cholesterol-lowering drugs.

A few studies have demonstrated that high dose Vit E over a long period increases the risk of death; however, there are several reasons why these results may not apply to the general population or the young and healthy subgroup.

Please consult a health practitioner before taking Vitamin E supplements.

It Offers Neuroprotection Against Parkinsons Disease

Tocotrienol is suggested to be a good neuroprotective agent against Parkinsons disease.

Glutamate is a neurotransmitter or chemical in the brain that is involved in memory and learning. However, when present in excess it causes toxicity to brain cells and can lead to cell death.

Glutamate-induced neurotoxicity is observed in Parkinsons disease as well.

It is reported that tocotrienol is more effective in preventing the glutamate-induced neuronal death than tocopherols. .

An experimental study published in Bosnian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2014 demonstrated that a tocotrienol-rich fraction containing 25% alpha tocopherol and 75% tocotrienol can protect the brain cells from glutamate injury with its potent antioxidant activity.

Repeated Vitamin E administration protects dopaminergic neurons and offers neuroprotection in Parkinsons disease.

Quick Gist: Tocotrienols antioxidant action can protect the brain from glutamate toxicity. Regular dietary intake of vitamin E can help protect brain health in PD.

Scientifically Backed Ways To Prevent Parkinsons Disease

Fish oil may cause Alzheimers and Parkinsons

Dopamine plays a major role in a variety of mental and physical functions, including:

  • Voluntary movement
  • Memory
  • General behavior

Parkinsons now afflicts roughly 1.5 million people in the United States alone, with primary symptoms being body tremors, slow movement, rigid limbs, reduced memory, a shuffling gait and speech impairment. So we have to ask:

1.) What causes it?

2.) How do we prevent it?

Currently there isnt a known cure, and its not fully understood what causes the dip in dopamine; however, we know that aging is the single most important risk factor for PD, with inflammation and stress contributing to cell damage. And we now know enough about the disease to understand the preventative measures that counter the aging;and death of the neurons under attack.

Because there is no known cure, its critical that we prevent the disease before symptoms arise. Granted, thanks to recent advancements in modern surgical procedures, there are some safe surgeries that can mitigate some of the more severe symptoms associated with PD. The most common one now is deep brain stimulation, in which they implant an electrode into the brain that can stop some of the more severe symptoms of Parkinsons.

But this article will try to keep it from getting to that point. The less drugs and surgery we can have in our lives, the better.

It May Protect Memory And Cognition In Parkinsons

Cognitive impairment is one of the non-motor complications in Parkinsons disease.

Cognitive impairment is a clinical term that involves memory issues, difficulties in thinking, learning and focusing and issues in making decisions pertaining to everyday life.

The severity of this impairment differs with patients based on the region affected, time of onset and progression of the disease.

Tocotrienol can help in improving memory and learning by counteracting cognitive deficits caused by oxidative stress.

Vit E deficiency can be a risk factor for cognitive dysfunction. The deficiency can accelerate the oxidative processes in the brain leading to cognitive dysfunction.

An 8-year follow-up study reported that the elevated levels of tocopherol and tocotrienol lower the risks of cognitive impairment in older adults.

Neuroplasticity is a term which indicates the ability of the brain cells to rewire themselves throughout the life. It significantly affects learning, memory and cognition of a person.

Vitamin E is suggested to influence the neuroplasticity at the hippocampus of the brain, a part of the brain that is actively involved in our memory function.

Hence, proper dietary intake of Vit E can help in maintaining healthy brain function, memory and cognition.

Quick Gist: Parkinsons disease may pave the way for cognitive impairment and memory loss. Maintaining optimum levels of Vitamin E in the body can help reduce the risk of cognitive impairment in the elderly.

Natural Remedy For Parkinsons #4 Chlorella And Borax:

If you have a neurological disease such as Parkinsons orAlzheimers, the importance of removing heavy metals from the body – especiallyfrom the brain and nervous system – cannot be overstated. Heavy metalsaccumulate in the brain and nervous system at a rapid rate and cause damage tothe neurological pathways and brain inflammation. Fluoride is one ofthe worst, however, mercury, lead, aluminium and cadmium are also extremely dangerous.Chlorella and borax not only remove these heavy metals completely, theycontinue to prevent further toxic build-ups.

Chlorella is a miracle blue-green algae and one of themost powerful detoxifiers and chelators yet discovered. Whenits combined with cilantro, its benefits are enhancedsignificantly. A Russian study found that chlorella, combined with cilantro, was able to remove all heavy metals from the body, including fluoride and mercury, with no adverse or harmful side effects. You can purchase chlorellain powdered form online or from most health food stores. Just make sure you buythe Broken Cell Wall Chlorella as this is the strongest and most bio-available.For dosage recommendations, simply follow the directions on the container.
