Using Cbd For Treating Parkinsons Disease Symptoms

What kind of effect can acupuncture have on Parkinson’s Disease?

People with PD are already using CBD in various forms for all sorts of symptoms of PD including insomnia, anxiety, tremor, dystonia and pain.

Without clinical trial data however, we do not know whether CBD is safe and effective for a particular symptom, and if it is, what CBD formulation and dosage is best to be used for a particular symptom.

We also dont know the side effect profile of CBD in people with PD.; At baseline, people with PD may have various non-motor symptoms that may make them more prone to side effects from CBD, including fatigue and nausea.

If you would like to try CBD for one of your PD symptoms, have a conversation with your movement disorders specialist about it. Your doctor may be willing to oversee your trying it, or may feel that it is too risky for you without evidence that it will help. At the very least, he/she can make sure that there are no drug interactions between CBD and anything else that you take and discuss with you any potential side effects that you need to be aware of.

The keywords used for the search were Parkinsonism or Parkinson’s disease AND acupuncture in each database language. The search strategy was adjusted for each database.

How Might Homeopathy Help

Homeopaths believe homeopathy can help with any condition in which the body has the potential to self-repair. As a result, they suggest homeopathy can be used to treat a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.

Homeopathy is popular. However, despite extensive research, there’s no good quality evidence that homeopathy is effective as a treatment for any health condition.;There are no studies on homeopathy for Parkinsons.

Homeopathy isn’t widely available on the NHS. In 2017, NHS England recommended that GPs and other prescribers should stop providing it.;It is available privately.

Practitioners

Some health professionals, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists, are trained in homeopathy and use it alongside conventional medical treatment. Theyre all regulated by their relevant professional body for example, GPs are regulated by the General Medical Council.

Some homeopaths arent medically qualified. Currently, there are no national standards of training and accreditation for these practitioners. If you decide to see a homeopath who isnt medically qualified, you should check theyre insured and registered with a professional body.

How Acupuncture Provides Help For Tremors

Tremor and involuntary shaking treatment using acupuncture may reduce tremors after the first treatment. Acupuncturists know the points to work on to slow down hand tremor with Acupuncture. Some experts believe that because acupuncture uses fine, sterile needles to stimulate nerves and the release of hormones, its possible that this is what provides the therapeutic effects seen in patients with tremors, allowing patients to reduce or eliminate the need for harsher therapies.

Research suggests that the stimulation of nerves can interrupt the mechanism of the tremors due to the fact that when manipulated, the acupuncture needles activate the somatic sensory receptors that are sensitive to physical distortion, along with a multitude of changes observed in the thalamus, 10 which is thought to play a role in tremors.

Characteristics Of Included Reviews

The characteristics of the 11 SRs/MAs included in our final analysis are summarized in Table 2. They were published between 2010 and 2019, and 9 of them were published since 2015 . The number of primary studies included in each review ranged from 8 to 42, and the sample sizes ranged from 474 to 2,625. The interventions in the therapy groups were mainly acupuncture or acupuncture plus medication, and the interventions in the control groups were mainly medication and sham placebo acupuncture. The conclusions from these reviews differed: 10 reviews reached the conclusion that acupuncture was effective in relieving PD symptoms, while the remaining 1 reached the opposite conclusion.

Contradictory Results And Plausible Reasons

Miracle Parkinson’s Disease Treatment Video

In contrast, we found that one study reported non-meaningful changes in TH+ levels and contradicting results in another study , which reported that acupuncture is not effective in improving DA neuron protection. In a study by Yang et al., the authors reported that the number of TH+ neurons did not increase as a result of acupuncture treatment compared with PD models. However, this study did not have a normal control group and, as such, it is questionable whether a PD model was successfully established. Although C57/Bl6 mice are the most sensitive to MPTP, there are some cases in which models are not successfully induced . This illustrates why thorough controls, such as saline-injected normal mice, are needed for developing reliable rodent models. Therefore, it is doubtful whether their model would be appropriate to examine the effects of acupuncture in PD rodent models. In a study by Jia et al., changes in TH+ neurons were not meaningful but were partially restored. The study used 6-OHDA surgery-induced neuronal depletion model for development of PD. We found that the degree of neuronal deficit by 6-OHDA surgery was worse than neurotoxin injection . Such differences among models may also lower the degree of recovery effect of acupuncture . It also explains why the recent development of PD animal models remains arguable ; therefore, it is important to carefully examine studies using various models to induce PD to draw the appropriate conclusions.

The Complementary And Natural Healthcare Council

The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council was established with government support to regulate some therapies.;

Therapies regulated by the Council include:

  • Alexander technique;
  • report any side effects when they happen

When you find a therapist, here are a few questions you should ask:

  • What, if any, risks are associated with the treatment you offer and what steps will you take to prevent problems?
  • What professional organisations are you registered with?
  • How much does the treatment cost and how long will it last?

Finally, its important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with and who you like. This will help make your therapy more successful and enjoyable.

How Might Herbal Medicine Help

Herbs are used for a wide variety of conditions. There is some evidence that certain herbs, like St Johns Wort, may help with depression;and some skin conditions.;But be aware that the herbal remedy St John’s Wort, which can be used for depression, is not recommended for people with Parkinson’s. This is because St Johns Wort can interact with your Parkinsons drugs.

St Johns Wort is also often mixed with other components to create different brands of the herbal remedy. This could increase the possibility of side effects and interactions.

Small trials have been carried out with plants commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to relieve Parkinsons symptoms . More research is needed to establish conclusively whether herbs are helpful in the treatment of Parkinsons symptoms.

Abstract

1. Introduction

Acupuncture and herbal medicine are used in combination rather than independently in clinical situation. However, in most studies, only the single-treatment effects of acupuncture and herbal medicine have been assessed. Thus, it is necessary to pragmatically evaluate the effects of a combined treatment with acupuncture and herbal medicine in PD.

How Acupuncture Can Help

Tremor’s Parkinson’s disease – Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture

This Factsheet focuses on the evidence for acupuncture in the management of patients with Parkinsons disease.

There have been two systematic reviews on the subject, both of which found evidence that acupuncture may be effective for treating idiopathic Parkinsons disease, but also concluded that more high quality studies are needed to confirm this. .

There have been several randomised controlled trials published since these systematic reviews. In two studies acupuncture or acupuncture plus Chinese herbs were at least as good as orthodox medication. Also, adjunctive acupuncture has been found to improve the therapeutic effect of drugs alone . In one trial both standard and bee venom acupuncture were superior to a no-treatment control . These studies also suggest that an adjunctive acupuncture regime could allow lower doses of medication to be used, and hence fewer side effects. However, the trials have continued to be small, and not replicated in the West, so the systematic review caveats still hold.

In general, acupuncture is believed to stimulate the nervous system and cause the release of neurochemical messenger molecules. The resulting biochemical changes influence the bodys homeostatic mechanisms, thus promoting physical and emotional well-being.

Research has shown that acupuncture treatment may specifically help in the management of Parkinsons disease by:

mobilising the antioxidant defence system to protect neurons in the nigrostriatal system (Wang 2011, Yu 2010

Effect Of Acupuncture On Da Neuron Protection

TH has a specific role in dopamine synthesis and is abundantly expressed in DA neurons; accordingly, it has been used as a dopamine neuronal marker in PD studies. Figure 2 shows the meta-analysis of studies with TH+ neurons in the SN of PD model animals. Twenty-nine studies adopted TH+ level as an outcome index. All of the studies reported a positive effect of acupuncture on increasing TH+ levels in the SN of acupuncture treated PD models compared with the PD control group except for two studies . Each data point on the plot is shown with group comparisons . One study reported decreased TH+ cells in the acupuncture-treated group compared with the MPTP model , and one study demonstrated no difference in TH+ cells between acupuncture and 6-OHDA mouse models . However, TH+ cells were increased after acupuncture in almost all studies, except two that reported no significant difference . Overall, integrated changes of TH+ neurons in PD models demonstrated 35.94% of normal brain and, interestingly, those of acupuncture treated improved these neuronal deficits by 70.43% . Additionally, a subgroup analysis of different PD models was performed to examine the effect of acupuncture on TH+ level. The result of the subgroup analysis indicated that acupuncture had a significant effect on MPTP models , MFB models , and 6-OHDA models .

Acupuncture Improves Parkinsons Symptoms

by Case Adams, PhDยท

Parkinsons disease symptoms can become progressively worse with time. Yes, conventional medicine can slow symptoms.

And pharmaceutical-grade L-dopa is often the drug of choice in conventional medicine for Parkinsons patients. L-dopa can help many Parkinsons symptoms, though it has its limitations.

Pharmaceutical L-dopa drugs can also cause numerous side effects, including nausea, hair loss, anxiety, hypotension, respiration disruption, disorientation, confusion, insomnia, hallucinations and others. Chronic use of L-dopa drugs also cause drug-induced dyskinesia a loss of muscle control.

Conventional doctors typically try to curb this effect of L-dopa with the addition of Carbidopa . This increases the metabolism of L-dopa drugs, allowing them to more easily cross the blood-brain barrier. This means the patient can be prescribed less L-dopa possibly slowing down the dyskinesia eventuality.

Beyond these and similar drugs, there is little conventional medicine can do to stop the progression of Parkinsons. We have discussed some potential herbal solutions and natural strategies to reduce Parkinsons symptoms. Are there other natural strategies that can be employed?

Naturalremedy For Parkinsons #7 Omega

Acupuncture

Animal based omega-3 fatty acids are a powerful weapon inthe fight against Parkinsons disease. One of the main fatty acids, DHA, is oneof the essential building blocks for the human brain. Half of your brain andeyes are made up of fat and a large proportion of this is DHA fat.

Omega-3 fatty acids have the unique ability to cross theblood-brain barrier, something most conventional drugs cannot do. They helpincrease dopamine levels and reduce neuroinflammation in the brain, while atthe same time, stimulating neuron growth. So basically, EPA and DHA help preventbrain cell damage and keep the nervous system in tip top working order! ;4;

Best sources of animal based omega-3s are either fishoil, cod liver oil or krill oil. High strength krill oil is the preferred option as thiscontains a substance called Astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a potent brain food nutrientthat has been shown to prevent neurodegeneration and inflammation of the brain.For dosages, take AT LEAST the highest recommended amount listed on the bottle the same goes with fish oil or cod liver oil. You cant overdose on thesesupplements so theres nothing to be concerned about. In fact, the more omega-3syou can get into you the better the results!

In addition to this, try and eat some cold water fattyfish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines or herring 3-4 times a week foran extra supply of DHA and EPA.;
